Mackay John Scobie Campbell




Mackay John Scobie Campbell, born 28 December 1877 Auckland, died 27 July 1956 Tauranga, buried Anglican Cemetery, Tauranga, block 16, row 22, plot 44.

12th (Otago) Mounted Rifles. 

A member of the 2nd Reinforcements he left New Zealand on the troopship HMNZT 13 (Verdala) on 14 December 1914 for Egypt. His brother Malcolm Hugh Campbell, the owner of Mangamaia Station near Whatatutu was also on the voyage and died at sea of pneumonia on 10 January 1915.

His uncle MacKay John Scobie MacKenzie MP married Jessy Adela Dillon Bell, the only daughter of Sir Francis Dillon Bell and sister of Sir Francis Henry Dillon Bell  (1851–1936) the first New Zealand-born prime minister.
